TENANTS:
Tenants must live in harmony within the community and be active Christian Scientists. A handbook entitled "The Golden Rule" is provided to all tenants. It includes all policies and thus becomes part of the lease.Tenants must be active in a local branch church (except for a spouse who may not necessarily be a Christian Scientist).
Tenants must provide their own meals, health care and cleaning services, and do their own laundry (laundry rooms are on premises). Tenants must be responsible for all other normal tenant responsibilities. Alta Vista is not an assisted-care facility, nursing home, or retirement community.
There are four Christian Science branch churches in Santa Barbara county (Carpinteria, Goleta, Santa Barbara, Solvang). The church within walking distance (7 blocks from Alta Vista) is First Church of Christ, Scientist, Santa Barbara. Its Reading Room is 4 blocks from Alta Vista. The other branch churches are in nearby towns.
GUESTS:
If there is a vacant apartment, guests may visit for up to three weeks. Minimum rate is for two nights even if the guest stays for only one night. Contact the Executive Director for rates. Guest rooms are furnished with only the basics, as Alta Vista does not function as a public motel/hotel/inn.Guests must be able to walk on their own without assistance or equipment. Guests do not need to be Christian Scientists as long as they are a member of a tenant's extended family or a close friend of a tenant. Guests who are not a relative or a friend of a tenant are also welcome for rest-and-study, for a vacation, or for a job assignment, provided they are active Christian Scientists.
